THE DANGER OF LOW EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

Posted by homebiz on Jun 18, 2009 in Blueprint to Success

Emotional Intelligence is the ability to understand the emotions you’re feeling and their impact on your behaviors. Our level of emotional intelligence affects our ability to make effective decisions. People with high emotional intelligence have the ability to manage his or her emotions and turn those emotions into energy when doing those activities that they don’t want to do, but must do in order to be successful.

 The most common emotion in business is FEAR. Fear is the ultimate success killer. Feat turns some of us into cowards and makes heroes out of others. Our emotions control our self awareness, self confidence, ability to communicate, influence, and accept change. When you begin to understand your emotions and turn them into positive energy, you will see your performance increase exponentially.

 Use the following steps to develop emotional intelligence:

 1.    Become Emotionally Literate

Start controlling your feelings rather than labeling people or situations.

 2.    Turn Anger Into Energy

Harness your anger and use it for energy to take productive actions.

 3.    Separate Thoughts & Feelings

Thoughts: I feel like (I Think)

Feelings: I feel (I Am)

 4.    Listen To Your Feelings

Your feelings communicate emotional needs, embrace them and learn from them.

 5.    Avoid The Haters

Do your best to avoid negative talkers and negative thinkers. Iron sharpens iron so surround yourself with people who add value to your life.

That’s food for thought, you do the dishes.

The Force Formula

Posted by homebiz on Jun 10, 2009 in Uncategorized

 Creating momentum in business is the challenge that seems most important to beginning entrepreneurs. It’s a challenge we all have to deal with at one time or another.

I personally go through periods where my business creates incredible momentum and other periods when it needs a kick start. It’s a complicated thing to manage.

In the classic motivational book “Think and Grow Rich” author Napoleon Hill made the famous claim: “Whatever your mind can conceive and believe it can achieve.” Although I’m a big believer in the power of visualization, business success will not be achieved by thoughts alone. In order to achieve any level of business success you must turn those thoughts into powerful forces.

In physics, a force is that which can cause an object with mass to accelerate. The scientific formula for force is

F = m*a

Force = mass times acceleration

In order to create a force you need mass to be accelerated. Therefore in order to create business force you have to put your body into motion. Usually when there is a lull in business, it’s normally caused by a decrease in your activity level.

Starting to see where I’m going with this?

 If you really want to create a huge force in business, you need to figure out a monthly, weekly, and daily plan of action. The bigger the idea, the more consistent the action, the bigger the resulting force will be.

Why Not Me?

Posted by homebiz on Jun 10, 2009 in Uncategorized

Why not me?

This is a phrase often repeated by famous ad exec Donny Deutsch and a question I often ask myself when I begin to doubt my abilities.

A couple of years ago I made a very important decision that greatly impacted the rest of my life. I was tired of being a pawn in the game of corporate chess. I knew I was worth far more than what my salary indicated. I also knew I would never be completely fulfilled if I continued on my chosen path. Although I knew I deserved better, I had become an expert on how I could fail. I could give a seminar on all the various reasons why my ideas wouldn’t work.  I often told myself ‘The other guy is successful because he was connected, or lucky, or had perfect timing’.

 One night while lying in bed I decided “I’m through feeling second class. I immediately jumped up, grabbed a pen and notepad, and wrote down the names of five people I’ve known for several years who had far surpassed me in earning power and job responsibility. Next, I compared myself with them on intelligence, education, work ethic, appearance, and people skills. I discovered that none of the individuals blew me away; in fact I was better than all in one area or the other. The only quality that separated us was THOUGHTS. Successful thoughts consumed their minds and they spoke about successful things. I on the other hand thought failure and spoke about failures.

Today I live a far different life.  I no longer feel underappreciated or have problems sleeping because of work anxiety. It all changed when I started to believe I was entitled to success.

Why Not You? You have to believe you deserve success and think success. You must feel entitled to being successful. Success doesn’t always go to the smartest or most talented but to those who believe they deserve it and whose actions are consistent with that belief. Think success, create your moment and own it.
